What is your body saying?
All of us get handed stories. From our earliest moments, stories are told to us and about us.
As we grow up, these stories often get swallowed whole. The narratives of our family, culture, and other systems become tangled up with our identity.
Many of us sense deep down a mismatch, a rumbling confusion, perhaps a painful tearing where inner truth is pressing through outer identity.
It can be terrifying to begin the process of sorting stories and disorienting to know which narratives to trust, but I’ve come to believe the truth my body tells is wiser than any voice, the memories held in my body are truer even than recollections, and- when I call a ceasefire to the war against my own body, its size, and its desire- it is deeply, fiercely, honest.
